THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 28TH, 1901.

Minutes of the first meeting of the Royal Commission to inquire into the Rabbit Question held at the Committee Rooms of the Legislative Council on Thursday, the 28th February, 1901.
The Chairman opened the proceedings by reading the Commission as proclaimed in the Government Gazette of 22nd February, 1901. He then related what he had done before calling the Commission together, in the way of getting maps of the localities, and reports dealing on the question for consideration, and names of gentleman to give evidence.
Secretary.—He said he had appointed Mr. Walter H. Clifford Secretary to the Commission, subject to the approval of the Commission. The Commission confirmed the acts of the Chairman.
After a long discussion of the subject from all points of view, it was resolved "That the Under Secretary for Lands be requested to apply, by wire, to the Governments of New South Wales, Queensland, and South Australia, for a copy of the reports with evidence taken of the latest Commissions or Conferences held in those States dealing with the Rabbit Question."
Witnesses.—The names of Messrs. McGill, Kennedy, M. New, Snell, of Leonora; F. Walsh, A. Shaw, W. Graham, and A. Sheard, were added to the list as probably useful.
Procedure.—It was resolved that four be a quorum.
On the motion of Mr. Burges, seconded by Mr. Loton, it was resolved to sit on the next day, 1st March, at 11 a.m., and to call for evidence the Chief Inspector of Stock; H. S. King, the Under Secretary for Mines; W. Paterson, the Manager Agricultural Bank; and Mr. Gordon Gardner. Minutes read and confirmed. ROBERT BUSH, Chairman.

The Commission met at the Committee Room of the Legislative Council, Perth, at 11 a.m.
At the afternoon sitting Mr. Wittenoom was absent; the rest of the Commission sat under the Chairmanship of Mr. R. E. Bush from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The following witnesses were called and examined:—J. M. Craig, Esq., Chief Inspector of Stock; H. S. King, Esq., Under Secretary for Mines, and Gordon Gardner, Esq.
The Commission then adjourned to Wednesday, the 6th instant, at 3 p.m. when the evidence of Messrs. J. W. White, W. J. Begley, and J. C. Warren would be taken.
It was further resolved to sit on Friday, the 8th instant, at 10.30 a.m., and take the evidence of Messrs. A. Mason, F. S. Brockman, and W. Paterson.
