to assist the first Infy Bde 3rd Bdl landed. I noticed during day good deal of demoralization along beach & elsewhere. Rifles, kit, accoutrements & especially S-H-Arm thrown about in all directions. Hundreds of wounded men coming thro to Field Hospitals on Beach & many dead to be seen. Very large proportion of wounded only slightly wounded in limbs. Position seemed rather serious in night (Description of landing place & Fleet.) conference of Gen Birdwood, Gen Bridges & Staff - as to whether we shall clear out or try & hang on the position is extremely serious I could not from where I was sitting help hearing the discussion I think they would decide to clear out but the Navy cant do it.
