attack on Enemys right which was preceded by heavy naval bombardment. Under heavy shell fire all day- saw Mervyn for a moment. New Zealanders attack only partly successful. Monday May 3rd It is reported that our Guns have shelled New Zealanders out of trenches they took last night. Investigation proved our guns had not even fired in this direction. Enemys fire that turned them out.
