his guns. Enemy Shelling Ships with very heavy Gun - one shell struck collier but cone prevented much damage to her - Under shell fire all the morning. Went to Salient - 400' plateau with Col. Johnston' to find placements for BROWNS 2 Guns. Afterwards went to through fire trenches with G.O.C. who pointed out where he wanted Guns to enfilade Valley. BROWNE fired with good effect on enemy work. Enemy retaliated with heavy shell fire. I had narrow escape a shell striking crest of trench in which I was sheltering half burying me with earth.
