Visited BROWNES & PHILLIPS positions & also gave direction for emplacing Gun in CLAYTON trench. Saw Col ELIOTT C.R.E. who promised to prepare road & emplacement. Arranged for Col Johnston to support Gen Tinmans attack at night if reqd & resist Enemy counter attack at dawn. Monday May 10th. Gave further instructions to BROWNE to alter & strengthen his emplacements & found new emplacements for him as alternative position. Made thorough reconnaissance of position on 400 foot plateau & am satisfied that Enemy from HILL 901 can dominate every gun we [Page] 22
