New Zealanders. Asked as I have done before Gen Cunliffe Owen to see if we cannot get Aeroplane observance from Navy. Also light Q.F.s on pedestal mountings to put in our trenches. He says the navy can't spare them but an aeroplane is coming to reconnoitre for the Howitzers we have. Good. Made my usual round. the Casemate for the gun on the covered way is getting on, the Enemy's fire is just as hot as ever. Poor Villier STUART, a most valuable officer on A.N.Z.C. H.Q. Staff killed today near covered way while sketching Heard today that Jack Napier lost his leg. at least it was so badly injured it [Page] 32
