following points: 1. Officers from Div Amm Col should be hurried on by Div H. Qs. 2. Artillery Officers not sufficiently in touch with Infy. Bgds 3. More alert Observation reqd 4. Guns not being able to fire over Infy. Trenches (These are the Guns ordered to be emplaced by Gen Bridges & over which there has been so much trouble & against the positions of which I protested so much) 5. Batteries being left without Officers 6. Officers & Sergts in Gun detmts not knowing our own & Enemy trenches. 7. Were not better Artillery positions available (I fail to see what more we can do in this respect & Gen Cunliffe Owen could not suggest any improvement) [Page] 42
