Tank Carts Road making our Tramways. The whole of the position was organized with sanitary area plans prept & Latrines properly built & roofed with pits Trench privvies etc designed & written instructions issued - all this in conjunction with unanimous approbation of the A.O.M.S. & S.O. & Div Eng - the first were not inclined to agree with me but quite came over to my way of thinking afterwards & have heartily co-operated. 2. Prepared plans for
a. proper bomb proof & weather proof shelters for Officers & men in Fire trenches, b. in Communications & support trenches, & Reserve Camps on Hill sides, etc.
These consist of underground chambers with ramps from fire trenches, tunnels with cells off same, & caves. Copies of sketches sent to Bgds Gen, Gen Staff - all these shelters must have at least 8'[ ] overhead cover. 3. Had all loop holes plates covered with hessian or painted & blended with hessian Screens hung behind. 4. Increased rifle power of defence by introducing more loopholes in side of "Firing posts" to bring more enfilade & oblique 114.
