fire to bear along our front. 5. Ordered improvement in trenches pointed out defective timbering & ordered new, ordered baller? to trenches and spoil to be thrown further back. 6. Condemned the old method of trench 'possies' for men that [ ] made which will in many instances prove death traps in the event of a bombardment. 7. Ordered the drainage in trenches to be pushed on and completed. Discussed with Infty & Light Horse Bgds & G.S.O.I. &[ ] after going until the whole question ordered. + a. pushed on & arranged for opening up of gap from CHATHAMS POST, forming advanced post south of same & arranging for defence against repeated turkish attacks. b. Arranging for pushing out our 'X' advanced firing line in front of 1st & 3rd Infy. Bdes. from Q. 1 to [?] BLACK HAND to the edge of the cliff - & across the Gulley at BLACK HAND. c. Endeavored to encourage a better and more energetic system of night patrolling especially by the Light Horse. d. Just before leaving re disposed the Divisional Artillery bringing in the whole of the Batteries including 2nd Batt. to be converted into a Howitzer Batt. 115
