I should mention I called on Col. Ryan at Shepherds on 27th to try & get a definate answer as to going to England he promised to get the matter settled by Monday. I called on Gen Spens same time & assured him I would do what I could. Sunday 28 Nov - Went to All Saints church in morning with Mervyn. Lunched with Col & Mrs Newmarch at Continental. Saw Major & Mrs Sweetland at Hotel he asked me about himself. I told him I understood he was struck off the strength of Div Art. I asked him why he did not come to Anzac when I offered him a Battery (when he was at Mudros. He said it was the first he had ever heard about it. Monday Nov 29th. Col. Ryan called to tell me had arranged for me to go to England by the Medina, leaving next Wednesday. Col. Maudsley came & procured the history of my case, & then thoroughly overhauled me. He stated I was organically sound, but required great care in rest & diet, he was certain I could not return to duty under 5 or 6 weeks. Tuesday Nov. 30th. Called on Gen Legge at GEZIRAH Hospt to let him know I was going he confirmed the arrangement previously mentioned that if I was not fit to return to ANZAC at end of Dec when I reckoned on getting back in CAIRO, I was to train the 2nd Div Artillery. Called on Col Selheim & bade him & Gen Carruthers good by, called to see Col Howse - not in left card 123
