Wrote letter explaining everything done & proposed movements to G.O.C. 1st Div. Bgd. Gen White, Col. Johnston, Major Anderson & instructed Mervyn to take same to Captain Evans at Base Office at Cairo. Also left wire for G.O.C. 1st Div. informing him. Invalided to England expect to be back in Egypt end of Dec. (this thro Base Office) Left for Port Said by 6.15 p.m. train - arrived Port Said midnight. Put up Eastern Exchange Hotel, went on Board MEDINA about 8.45 a.m. met Mr & Mrs John Denny, Mrs Bridges, Mr & Mrs Eliott, (Coldeston) Col. Cameron. (introduced among others to Sir Charles Bailey, L. Gen. Bombay, an exceedingly nice man) Eric Sandover, Langley Lefroy - met Mrs Kilgower, husband Gen. Kilgower just died in Cairo, Also Mrs Bennet, wife of Capt. Bennet, Indian Cavalry, a charming lady, who Col Newmarch asked me to see on board. Sunday, 5th Dec. perfect day. Smooth sea, the weather has been mild & delightful all the way from Port Said. am feeling a new man. we came by course past Malta & S. of Sicily, & cruised up the E. side of Sardinia - expect to get to Marseilles 8 a.m. tomorrow morning. 124
