Friday Jany 14th 1916 Left Home 15 Cardigan Rd Richmond Surrey with wife Went to Theatre. (Prince of Wales) saw Stop Thief. Stayed night at Charing X Hotel. caught train (P. & O. Special) next morning at 7.a.m. arrived at Folkestone. 8.40.a.m. Went on board Channel boat. After 1½ hours was informed boat would not leave until 9.a.m. Sunday, & we were told to go to Pavilion Hotel at P. & O. Coys expense. The M.T.O told me however he thought the boat, which had been delayed through the sinking of a Beef boat by a mine in the fairway at Boulogne Harbour would get away about 4.p.m. this turned out to be correct. at 3. p.m. we got notice to go on board. the boat left at 4.p.m. & arrived at Boulogne about 5.45.p.m. I got on the train & then found I had to get my Railway Ticket from the R.T.O. at the Central [Page] 1.
