Mar 9th 'X' Office & Routine work. Col Rosenthal O/C 4th Div Art giving me a good deal of trouble through various ways he is trying to filch Officers N.C.Os & men from my command for his own. I found on visiting the old earthworks prepared for the battle of Tel EL KEBIR by Aribi Pasha in 1882 that our men had dug up the graves of many of the Egyptian soldiers killed & buried after that Battle, presumably to obtain relics. it is rather significant that though there were quantities of other bones, no skulls were to be seen 'X' I reported this to H.Qs Aust per formations. Sat Mar 11th. Again obstructed in my training by Cairo dist. who refuse to allow the 5" Howitzers to come here although I wired & stated Army H.Qs sanctioned it. The D.A.C. has also been ordered to stand fast pending further orders from Gen White. Gen White bade adieu to the Div Art on the occasion of presenting R. Humane Society medals to the drivers of the 8th Bat & 3rd B.A.C. He, Col Bridges & Lt White had dinner with us. [Page] 26
