Monday next 21st inst. Capt HOUSE called this morning & told me the result of Mervyns med examination & the Bact. exam of sputum was suspicous. Sat 18th. March exercise in Desert. an awful day - blowing hard. criticism on march exercise in Evening. 'X' A.P.M. Major Williams informed of charges against Lt HOLDGATE who had been acting A.P.M. here in connection with securing contracts for various people here, & accepting Horse as a present from a Caterer. I wrote to Gen White & expressed the view that if possible HOLDGATE should be tried here instead of being sent back to Australia. rained very heavily during the night. Sunday 19th. Attended church parade. 'X' Mervyn returned & to my great relief stated examination proved no trace of tubercolosis Went out on Range in afternoon & fixed Target Sites for Gunnery Series. Got Orders that 1st F.A. Bde to leave on Monday night - (tomorrow) March 20th. Office & Routine work. Commenced Elementary practice, Tel el Kebir (firing in directions & making use of Aribis old entrenchments) First Bde could not fire - Bd Gen Irving at commencement of shoot. [Page] 28
