At 4 p.m. our 5th Batt were 'X' heavily shelled 12 - 5-9 falling on & about the Batt. Their emplacements were smashed in but no casualties to men or material - As this is the third time enemy have shelled this Batt, I ordered Group Comdr to withdraw it. fine in morning, Wet from midday. Apl. 22nd Took G.O.C. to see PETILLON Group Batteries, & appd of new position for 5th Batt. In afternoon went with G.O.C. to Trench Mortar demonstration at BETHAIN. the bombs used were ponderous, & very powerful. Very wet day. mud & slush is awful. Apl. 23rd Easter Sunday Beautiful day. One of our aeroplanes brought down this morning. What a travesty all this Gun firing & Strafe that is going on today on our civilization & this great Christian festival. There has been a good deal of artillery activity right & left of us today. Went to H.Qs FLEUBAIX Group today & met Bgd. Gen.
