Battery - which will come under my command on the 30th inst. Went to ARMENTIERES this afternoon. Some large Houses & good shops here. the whole Town bears evidence of this Shelling it has had & is pretty well deserted by the civil population. FLEUBAIX is another little town or large Village that has Suffered badly from Shell fire, & is practically deserted. Apl. 25th. Fine day. Inspected Wagon lines & also B.A.C. 2nd F. Art Bde at ROUGE MAISON - All Horses & equipment in dirty and unsatisfactory condition. also inspected Wagon line of 102 Batt. (How) Apl. 26th. Fine day. Inspected D.A.C. at & about DOULIEU. Capt MADDENS Sect. Equipment in very bad condition also inspected billets which are good. Apl. 27th. Fine day. Inspected Wagon lines of 2nd F. Art Bde with O/C. near FLEUBEAUX. in very dirty condition - I cautioned all concerned about tying Horses to Fruit trees. Got alarm of Gas, about 1000 to night & shooting all along the line but things quietened down afterwards. 'X' Mervyn left at 4.30 a.m. this morning for 8 days leave to England. [Page] 40
