with O/C Group. In afternoon went out to select ground for Drill ground for Reserve Bde, but failed to find one. fine day. May 5th Accompanied Lieut Gen Sir W. Birdwood & B.G.R.A. in an inspection of the whole of the Batteries emplaced of 1st Div Art except 23rd & 1st Gen pleased with what he saw & made some very complimentary remarks to me. fine day May 6th Inspection Wagon lines of 2nd F.A. Bde including B.A.C. & 102 How Batt with Gen Walker. 4th Batt & 102 Satisfactory others far from satisfactory especially the 4th. Nearly all the trouble arises from the way the equipment was neglected in Egypt, the 'X" want of experience of Officers & O. Ranks, & the difficulty in getting material from Ordnance it is all very wearying. fine day May 7th Inspected Wagon lines 3rd F.A. Bde (left Group) also 1st Batt & 103. The only satisfactory Wagon line was 103rd H. Batt. Inspected D.A.C. at VERTE RUC good deal of improvement noticeable afterwards visited B.G.R.A. & ordnance officer at LA MOTTE fine in morning.
