May 23rd SAILLY. Inspected wagon lines 3rd F. Art Bde. & 24th Batt. very great improvement, all very well turned out fine day, afterwards went to see O/C Group (Left) at his H.Qs. May 24th SAILLY. Conference at H.Qs. Right Group & Group Art. Commanders - S.O. medium trench mortars. fine in morning. Showery afternoon. May 25th Went to CASSEL to attend Conference of B.G.R.A. 2nd Army (had lunch afterwards there) M.G.R.A. 2nd Army, Gen FRANKS presided. CASSEL is a very picturesque in interesting place on a very high Hill standing alone above & giving glorious view of the plains below, the best views I have had in France, fine day. May 26th Observing fire from our R. Group Batteries against enemies trenches & works & his reply - from O.Ps at VINE COTTAGE, MELBOURNE MANSIONS - SCHOOL HOUSE - we fired nearly 1300 rounds today. May 27th fine day. With Gen Birdwood & G.O.C. 1st Aust Div inspecting D.A.C. & Wagon lines of 2nd F.Art Bde & 22nd Batt.
