May 29th Went to LA. MOTTE to see B.G.R.A. about positions for new Batteries etc on our front also saw Gen White who promised to get us the Art reinforcements we so urgently require. Attended Conference at 2nd Div H.Q. re Art action & co-operation along our front during next few days. (fine day. May 30th At H.Qs. Left & Right Groups to 'X' confer with Group Art Comds. re action of T.M-Batteries'. fine day May 31st Took Major Gen BROADWOOD round to inspect Batteries of Right Group. 'X' May 30th Germans made an attack on the trenches of our right group this night after a heavy bombardment which commenced at 8.15 p.m. & continued until nearly 10 p.m. Gun Artillery responded very Satisfactorily & I think prevented the German from achieving his object, our Cas. about 20 Killed & 80 wounded. The German fired some of their 240 lb Mimnewafers & I fear some of our poor fellows were buried alive. The 2nd & 22nd Battery came under fire we had about 7 men wounded. We continue to draw enemy fire with our roving Guns he has fired quite 500 rounds [Page] 50
