July 7th In morning To Hill 63 to arrange for emplacement of Batts of 3rd F. Art Bde. Afternoon. Selecting position for Div Art H.Qs, at WESTHOF. In evening received orders to "stand fast - as we are to go "South". Showery all day. July 8th Conference with Bde & D.A.C. Comndrs at Div Art H.Qs & giving them as far as possible the arrangements for the move South. Went to HAZEBROUCK & arranged for renting Room at 2 F's per day for Storing extra Div Art Kit. fine day. July 9th (Sunday) Visited [all] H.Qs 1st 2nd 3rd F. Art Bdes, & D.A.C., to see that all are in readiness to move. This is a very busy Sunday. I am not likely to forget the bustle & excitement in anticipating the part we are to play in the big move. 'X' In the afternoon visited 21st F. Art Bde at St JAN CAPPEL. Went on to the high ground on Hill just on the Belgian frontier whence a magnificent view can be obtained. It was a perfect day clear & sunny. YPRES could be seen - This is the most beautiful view I have had in France. July 10th 'X' Left BAILLEOL this morning by M. Car at 10.30 a.m. - with Bde Maj. & Staff Capt (& Jeffs - (Mervyn with Interpreter & Signalling Officer is to come on tomorrow morning with Div Art H.Qs by train - we left for CANAPLES - [but on calling] [Page] 61
