Sept. 19th Showery. With Col. Browne, inspecting 1st & 21st F. Art. Bdes. At Office of G.O.C.R.A. re S.O.S. Signal. At Gen Birdwoods to meet Sir Newton Moore at Tea. Sept. 20th fine, really light showers With Col Browne - inspecting work at new training Camp, & 4th Sect. D.A.C. Inspected reinforcements for Art. at H.Qs D.A.C. - Moore came to Dinner with me. Sept. 21st fine Accompanied G.O.C.R.A. in inspection of left Art Group (O/C Group & D.T.M.O. with us.) less 1st & 2 Batts. enemy Shelling left Group H.Qs. Selecting Officers & men for R.F.C. Sept. 22nd Inspecting work on 3rd Bde (Reserve Area) & 4th Sect. D.A.C. with L'. Col. Bessell Browne. Called to see G.O.C.R.A. as arranged but found he had gone to CASSELL. Reported to G.O.C. 1910. Handed over to O/C 2nd F. Art. Bde who will administer Div Art during my leave in England - fine day 'X' Sept. 23rd (Happy day & fine) Left HOOGGRAAF at 6 a.m. with Mervyn by motor for BOULOGNE - after a beautiful run arrived at 8.15 a.m. had breakfast. Went on board leave Boat which sailed at 9.15 a.m., arrived FOLKESTONE 10.45 a.m. train left 11.45 arrived at Victoria about 2 p.m. met by Wife, Dorothy, Mrs Wisdom. Oct 3rd left Charing X at 11.45 a.m. fine passage over arrived BOULOGNE at 4 p.m., left 4.50 by car arrived at HOOGGRAAF at 7 p.m. I have had a very happy ten days with my dear Wife all my Family have been with me.
