Div. (a good deal of it is in a filthy condition) Maj Gen HOLMES came to my Div H.Qs at noon & stayed to lunch. Feby 26th beautiful fine day clear observation With a a. & Q.M.G. to G.Os C. 8th.14th & 15th Infy. Bdes at their respective H.Qs. spoke to them about keeping in close touch & cooperation with our Artillery & help in every way Artillery "Sniping" at M.Gs etc & to push forward their patrols & harrass the Bosche in every way. C.R.A. also informed same effect. Issued Div operation Order on Corps order received in connection with Bosche retirement. Feby 27. Fine but observation difficult. Had to ring up G.O.C. 8th Bde. (Tovey) & speak in most emphatic terms on the want of push & energy of his patrols in clearing up the situation - gave almost similar instructions to G.Os.C. both 14th & 15th Bdes. Inspected the 5th D.A.C. near FRICOURT. Bgd Gen B. Brown accompanied me. L'. Col Hughes just assumed command vice Major McClean. Feby 28th Fine but thick mist visited G.Os.C. 8th & O/C (Col Stewart) 14th Infy. Bdes. & explained our policy & alteration in frontage [Page] 8
