were brought here by Gen Birdwood & I introduced them to some of the Senior Officers of the Div. March 13th. fine indiff. Observation some rain Reported Enemy retired from LOUPART Wood & GREVILLIERS. our patrols keeping in touch with them. Went to 2nd Div H.Qs. met G.O.C. Army Corps. & G.O.C. 2nd Div. Arranged for 8th Bde to remain in position with its left on BAPAUME RD. Went to G.O.C. 8th Infy Bde at FACTORY CORNER - arranged with him to try & establish posts in WARLENCOURT TRENCH to east of the BAPAUME RD. & for Artillery to cut "lanes" in wire. On return to H.Qs. met B.G.G.S. who described situation & told me 8th Bde could remain in line on left as at present for at least another week. Gen White told me to try & push out on BAULENCOURTT SPUR to hasten enemys retirement from TILL ATOM & HEAVEN TRENCHES. also to est. posts in the BRICKFIELDS on our left. I saw Gen Eliott (just retd from leave & told him) I also gave Gen TIVEY necessary instructions with regard to reconnoitering enemy positions. March 14. Wet day. bad light. 8th Bde reports during night their patrols established stop in WARLENCOURT RT trench to 300 X E of BAPAUME RD & in possession of BRICKFIELDS. [Page] 14
