Major King (G.S.O.2) Mervyn, C.R.A. & G.S.O.3. First met G.O.C. 20th Div Maj Gen MATHIESON at LE TRANSLOY & fixed boundaries between our divisions & arranged for junction of his lines of defence with ours. then saw locality of positions assigned by C.R.A. to Burgess F. Art Bde. & Caddys Bde. Called at 15th Infy. Bde H.Qs FREMICOURT then went on to DELSAUX Fm where Gen Elliott Comdg A.C has forward H.Qs in a fine German Dug Out. I told Gen Elliott he was to get 2 more Batts Field Art. & another Infty Bn. Went to BAPAUME saw Gen TIVEY spoke to him very strongly about his men not having their packs. Got back at 8.15. p.m. March 21st Fine cold wind. In Office. Gen Birdwood called. X At 9.a m we got word from 15 Infy Bde that they had taken BEAUMETZ. Since the morning of the 17th we have taken BAPAUME Town & the following Villages LE TRANSLOY RIENCOURT BEAULECOURT VILLER AU FLOS BANCOURT FREMINCOURT LEBUCQUIRE VELU BEUGNY BEAUMETZ BERTINCOURT Have given orders for moving D.H.Q to near BEAULENCOURT. March 22nd. To Advanced Guard Comdr at FREMICOURT. The Army Corps Comdr. Gen BIRDWOOD & B.G.G.S. went with me. I showed them over most of the area occupied by the A.G. & took them as far [Page] 19
