The 59th Infy. Bde. (20th Div) is relieving our 8th Infy Bde tonight. Major Heseldine from G.H.Q called early this afternoon, also L'. Col [empty space here] from IV Corps (to lunch) Also L'. Col. Haskel G.S.O.1 20th Div. & Bgd Gen Butler comdg 60th Bde. 20th Div (he went up to see G.O.C. 14th Bde whom he relieves.) May 25th Very fine clear day. Quiet night. Gen MATHIESON comdg 20th Div called & I explained the situation here thoroughly to him Gen NAPIER G.O.C.R.A. 1st Anzac also called & I told him about the Boche neutralizing the four Heavy Batteries on our right. the complaint about H. Art. F.O.Os. Ammunition wagon etc supplying batteries during daylight etc. Visited Bgd. Gen BROWN CLAYTON comdg 59th Bde. who relieved our 8th Bde last night. Found everything satisfactory except that Art. Bde Comd had not reported to him & the Art liaison officer was unsatisfactory. May 26th Very fine day. Gen BIRDWOOD rang me up & wished me good by, as he is going on a weeks tour of Inspection & thanked me for the very fine work we have done since the Div [Page] 53.
