then to the Royal Academy Met Col. HEARNE & Capt HUNN at WATERLOO. Proceeded by 5.40 train to ANDOVER JUNc arrived at TIDWORTH at 8 pm had dinner at Mess & stayed night with Gen McCAY. Gen SMYTHE accompanied me & with Gen McCAY & Bgd. Gen McLAGAN had a conference on question of training Troops & methods in appointing Officers & N.C.Os as Instructors. (June 6th) In the morning accompanied by Maj Gen McCAY. Inspected the training Bns. Maj SLOANS Bn (8th Bde) was not satisfactory. I think he will have to be removed. he has lost his punch. Major HOLLAND is doing well with the 14th. L'. Col JACKSON appears to be doing his best with the 15th but he seems to have a "far away" look in his eye & could be improved upon he will be watched. I arranged with Gen McCAY that mens history should accompany them to the Bn pasted or pinned on their Pay Book. My Inspection [Page] 58
