July 23rd Very fine day. In morning inspecting 14th M.G. Coy transport. not at all satisfactory. Transport Officer L'. Naughton to be[word cr ossed out][ sent back to his Bn & reported on in a month. Reconnoitering VARENNES & its vicinity in connection with Div Exercise on 25th (without Troops. Maj Varwell retd from leaveJuly 24th Very fine day. At BEAUMONT HAMEL at a demonstration on ground of new method of forward communication by our Signal Coy. & explained by L'. Col. POWELL A.D.S. 1st Anzac. Afterwards with G.S.O.1 arranging on ground detail Div Exercise without Troops- July 25th Fine day (cloudy) Divisional Exercise without Troops at VARENNES. Attended by by[?] 3 Infy.
