very satisfactory Went to dinner with Gen BIRDWOOD at QUERRIER in Evening. (Col. Wagstaff with me very enjoyable evening. July 26th Engaged in Office work practically all day.
July 27th Fine hot day To see Outpost Scheme by 55th Bn & A.G. Exercise by 56th Bn between RUBEMPRE and CONTAY. (on Ridge & Woods.) neither very satisfactory. both Bn Comdrs & Bde Comdrs present. In Afternoon visited Bde H.Qs. & saw Infantry Bgdrs of 8th & 15th Bdes. at SENLIS & MAILLY, MAILET respectively also called on Bn Comdrs of 29th 30th 31st 32nd 58th 59th 60th Bns saw all except L'. Col DAVIES who was out. Asked all if they were ready for moves[ ] N on 29th what shortages if any & if we could help them in any way, with exception of [Page] 77
