Inspected 25th Div H.Q. Machine Gun Coy that has just joined us. very favorably impressed with it. Sept. 15 fine day. perfect afternoon Inspected 14th Bde. 55 & 53rd Bns at new Attack Exercise near EBLINGHAM. Bgd. Gen HOBKIRK in Command - A very unsatisfactory show. I spoke very severely about it at the pow wow & pointed out to G.O.C that the want of decision & punctuality in Bde Orders & arrangements was largely due the faults. I warned him again about his Bde Major & strongly advised a change. left G.S.O.1. in assist in further Exercise with 54 & 56th Bns. he reported an improvement. Went to L.T.M. demonstration to show how L.T.Ms. can be used to closely support Infy. attack with sling instead of tripod. Show took place on RACQUINGHAM RIDGE by 8th - A L.T.M. [...] G.S.O.1 2nd Army & many other officers present. very satisfactory show - In afternoon inspected whole of Div Reg transport at BLARINGHAM. very satisfactory. Went for Ride towards AIRE along Canal a perfect afternoon. Went through Gas test. Sept. 16. fine day. In morning went to Div Art. church parade & dist. of medals by Gen BIRDWOOD at a place about 4 miles out of St. OMER (near St MOMELIN) A.A. & Q.M.G. with me. Inspected old Abbey ruined in the French Revolution & Cathedral & old fortifications. St OMER is an interesting old place.
