as to Routes if required to support his Division. Went to YPRES. very heavy traffic on Roads dust too awful for words. Went with G.S.O.1 to 14th & 15th Bdes to instruct them to each hold Bde in readiness to move to the front line from 7.40 am tomorrow. Saw Maj Dickenson & told him why he had been removed from 14th Bde. & of his indifferent Report from University Course. Went 8th Bde but G.O.C out. Called in at 1st Anzac on way back Sept. 20 - drizzly rain during night fine day - 'X' A General attack was made this morning on the Bosche by the 5th & 2nd Armies at 5.40 am. All objectives achieved. 1st Anzac composed of 1st & 2nd Div gained their objectives without a great deal of loss except that 1st Bde in Reserve suffered losses in moving up on our old front line that might have been avoided perhaps. It has been a real good day however & looks as though the Bosche had had a pretty bad knock & rather got the wind up. so far not very heavy counter attacks or shelling Gen McLAGAN called to see me about 4 p.m. I called & received my instructions re 5th Div attack from 1st Anzac this evening. poor Gibbs was killed this morning. Sept. 21st fine day. Bosche machines bombing round here this morning. Went to see G.Os.C. 14 & 15th Infantry Bdes to give them instructions regarding moves etc into line. In Afternoon to Corps.
