Jany 10th - SAMER Fine bright day, cold. Left Richmond by 12.noon train with Wife Dorothy & Mervyn. Met TEMPERLEY my new A.D.C at Charing X Mr. Joe Temperley & Comdr Charles Temperley also Sir Newton Moore came to see us off. Train left at 1.20.p.m Boat sailed from Folkestone at 4.10.p.m arrived at Boulogne at 6.p.m. Pretty rough passage I was violently sick soon after starting. Col Peck met me on the Quay (with car) got to D.H.Q at SAMER at 7.15. big piles of congratulatory letters including very nice letters from Generals Plumer, Birdwood, White, Monash & others & from High Commissioner for Australia. Felt pretty badly shaken with journey sea sickness & the partings. Jany 11th Fine mild day. Very busy going through papers & correspondence & office work that had accumulated since I was away. Visited 8th 15th & 14th Infy. Bdes & saw G.O.Cs. & staffs. also saw C.R.A. (he was here to lunch Everythng seems to be going satisfactory & the all ranks cheerful I received hearty cordial greetings & congratulations on my K.C.B. wherever I went. L'. Col. PECK went to England to be medically examined. (I sent my saddle bags to Mervyn per Hatchett) Jany 12th Fine day. Visited 8th Bde H.Qs. at DESVRES. met G.O.C. & Os/C 29, 30 & 32nd Bns.
