had a conference with Bgds & Bn comds with reference to going into line again & precaution against "tank" attack. Visited 29th & 30th Bns at Cement Works. DESVRES. all seemed in good spirits & little or no complaints visited Col. TOLL comg. 31st in his billet. he was not very well still engaged in acknowledging congratulatory messages in afternoon. Went for ride with Temperley. Recd a call by TEL from Corps Comdr. who stated he was unable to come here to present medal etc until 21st inst. Jany 13th Beautiful springlike day. To all the Bn Commanders of the 15th Bde. saw all except L'. Col MARSHALL on leave but saw a good many of his officers.- Everything seems alright in the Bde. & the men cheerful only complaint the usual one bread shortage - but they can always get biscuit. In Afternoon went to Boulogne. saw Sister Ashton & had tea with her at No 2 Aust Gen Hospital hurried back to catch Gen Walker who was calling on me on his way on leave but he was there 1/2 hour earlier than he wired to say & had gone. Jany 14th 4 to 5" snow on ground this morning. To 8th Bde. Sports in morning afterwards inspected the Billets of the 29th Bn in other Cement Works. also spoke to men of other Bns in DESVRES very little complaint Gen TIVEY accompanied me [Page] 148.
