Jany. 18th Fine mild day. In morning inspected with G.O.C & A.R.12.M.G. the 8th Bde transport at DESVRES, also the 8th M.G. Coy. The whole was good the 32nd very good & also the 29th & M.G. Coy. In afternoon rode through 56 Bn area men seemed contented & cheerful. Jany. 19th Fine mild day. In morning To 14th Field Amb. at CORMON. Satisfactory. then to D.A. H.Qs. at LONGVILLERS. Saw A/- C.R.A. L'. Col CADDY inspected 50th Batt. then on to ATTIN to 14th F. Art. Bde H.Qs saw L'. Col DERHAM & inspected men of 49th Batt. & saw several new Art Officers. practically no complaints & all seem fit well & contented. In Afternoon to excellent Sports meeting of the 14th Infy Bde at MENTY. in the evening to Entertainment by Div Concert Party at SAMER. splendid Jany 20th Drizzly mild day. To 5th Div Pioneer Bn H.Qs. saw O/C Bn visited companies BUCHANS at HESDIN & Wilkinsons near by. afterwards saw Wilkinson about his alleged super[?] & promised to see G.O.C. Corps about it. Inspection revealed some defects but general result satisfactory men fit & well & contented. In afternoon went to Transport competition & sports of the 53rd Bn a very good show, but I got a bit of a chill standing about on the wet, cold muddy fields. Jany 21st Dull but fine windy. Gen Birdwood arrived at DESVRES at 2.p.m. & presented medals & ribbons to the 8th Bde. afterwards left for HESDIN L'ABBE & did the same for the Pioneers who were having their sports.
