Div. their H.Qs. are here at BLAGNY TRONVILLE at the CHATEAU. I went there about 9. p.m. & saw Bgd Gen HARMER in command. the command passed with the relief of the Cavy Bde. (SEYMOURS) by the 14th Bde was completed about 4. a.m. Very good quarters in the Chateau & I am glad to get out of the small dirty smelly cottage in the Village. Apl. 6th Fine spring day good vis. Boche attack on center Bn our 15th Bde easily repulsed with Artillery fire this morning, about 6.30. a.m. message from Corps anticipates further attack on our front Gen MONASH comg. our 3rd Div called & gave me some news of the situation on his front, repeated repulse of small attacks. Gen BIRDWOOD called about 1.45 p.m. & said he expected to get our Bdes back to us in a day or two (our 8th Bde. is still attached as a Reserve to 18th Div) & to take over the control & command of all our Divisions. Had great difficulty in getting a Batty of heavy french Railway guns that had taken up a position almost in front of my H.Qs. & which were not only smashing all the glass bringing down ceilings but drawing fire on my H.Qs. just as I was likely to be commencing a battle (dealing with the threatened Boche attack) removed or firing stopped by Corps. Have at last last got into working order again. 15th Bde holding left of line 14th Bde. Right. Pioneer Bn in Reserve. Apl. 7th Fine day, good vis. To H.Qs. of 15th Bde at FOUILLY & 14th Bde QUARRY just at FOUILLY. VILLERS BRETTONEAUX Rd - saw both Bgdes & found everything satisfactory. X Gen Elliiott in a beautiful House from which owner had left leaving most beautiful furniture, statuary, pictures, silver tea services aviary of rare birds etc etc untouched & unshelled so far (even half finished manuscript on butterflys of which there is a fine collection left on 182
