long days left for the School (Corps) to prepare for his proposed entry to the Indian Army. The Div has done well here has earned a great name for good discipline & efficiency. My heart swelled with pride & sorrow as I thought of how many of these gallant splendid fellows would be no more when I watched 14th & 15th Bde Groups march past me yesterday. My heart was sad last night when I went for a solitary walk in the failing light to the district round here where they have been. their conduct has been good & the people here are generally genuinely sorry to see them go. 24/9/17 16th Bavarian Div. This Div is holding the front on which I am attacking on 26/9/17. these are the "Blighters" that were guilty of the atrocities in Alsace early in the war & which I remember reading about one Sunday morning at the Hotel Continental in CARIO (sic- Cairo) when oh' how I wished I could get at them, now we have our chance & I have told our attacking Bdes. about the service in front of them. 25/9/17 Literature We get an appalling quantity of reading to do to keep ourselves acquainted with all that is going on. It's amazing the amount of stuff that comes through in the course of a day. The celerity with which Air photos situation maps & such like are produced.
