we have according to C in C whom I met today complete mastering of the Air in this region - 29/7/17. In lectures Subject of the growth of the Artillery the time of training. also subject of resistance of reinforced concrete to Gun fire. Germans lay down thickness of 5' with heavy floor. must not be in blocks. Incidents of German inhumanity. early battles of Somme. bring french women into front line trenches & causing them to scream so that their husbands & men recruited from the villages would madly rush forward to the rescue & were then mown down by M.G. fire. (told by Prof. Mauss Of the stripping of Highlanders taken prisoners near LOOS driving them over the parapet into the wire & then shooting them in cold blood. Of drowning their victims by submerging their sub marines after capturing & leaving these unhappy people on their decks. Of the crucifixion of the Canadian Sanctuary wood Sept. 18th - left BLARINGHAM today to proceed to RHENINGHELST for Battle I shall always look back on the happy days I & the Div had in this pretty place. the Chateau was the most comfortable of Billets - the walks & rides especially along the Canal ever fresh & pretty. important locals to me have happened I had a good & unexpected "leave" while here. my G.S.O.1 Col Wagstaff left me here & my boy who has been so much to me all through these
