May 17th Fine Summer day, bad vis. morning. Enemy planes very active last night. In morning to H.Q. 14th & 8th Infy Bdes. told G.O.C. 14th that I would arrange for Reserve Bde to protect his right flank. on line Pioneer trench from Forward zone reserve line. West Reserve Bde would also furnish nucleus garrison. Informed both Bdes that that their H.Qs would be changed to I.32.a. In afternoon final test of Hobbs M.G. Casemate at POULANVILLE. Corps Comnder & B.G.G.S. present. G.O.C. 15th Infy Bde & two of his Bde Commanders. May 18th Fine Summers day, ind. vis. Four Aust. Art. action in our Sector last night both sides. Enemy machines very active bombing round here. 14th Bde captured Boche post last night killing 2 & capturing 3. In morning inspected 14th Aust F. Art. Bde on CORBIE RIDGE. Bde Comdr L'. Col DERHAM & C.R.A. accompanied me. All satisfactory except signs of slackness in Major KELLYS Batt. he is to be watched. Horses & Harness dirty. In afternoon saw Gen HYLAND with regard to his complaint about not getting leave. I came to conclusion his complaint not justified & that he is a bad lot. I promised however to enquire into the irregularities he complained of in connection with his 2 years sentence for looting at CORBIE. Later visited 15th Infy Bde School at DAOURS. Saw G.O.C. 15th Infy Bde. Rang up G.O.C. 14th Infy Bde & complimented him on result of last nights capture. May 19th Beautiful day. indif. vis.
