I explained in detail the proposed operation & the part the 5th Div is to take on the[ ] [ 8th inst. & emphatically enjoined secrecy. Augst. 2nd Dull & wet, bad vis. preparing plan for Operation & forwarded to Corps. H.Qs. In afternoon inspected 8th Bde School in BOIS de MAIS on the end of the course & afterwards addressed the Students & instructional staff. August 3rd Fine day, good vis. In morning to 8th 14th & 15th Bdes at BOIS de MAIS, ST VAAST & MONTIERES Saw G.Os.C. (& at the 14th all Bn commanders) & discussed plans for forthcoming operations & gave instructions as required. In Afternoon saw L'. Col BRYCE Comg. 2nd Bn Mark V Tanks[ ] & arranged task of his tanks. X Lieut. Temperley my A.D.C. sent to C.C.S. with dysentery. Augst. 4th Fine day good vis. In morning attended Conference at Aust. H.Qs. BERTANGLES to describe plan of Battle, to discuss & receive final instructions for Operation to take place shortly. present Corps. Comdr. & his principal 5 Officers, Div Commanders of 2 3 4 & 5th Div their C.R.As. & G.S.O.1s Representative from III Corps & [ ]Canadian Corps. Infantry & Tank Corps.
