damaged almost beyond repair I noticed that the Boche has taken steps to prepare for total demolition by cut recesses in piers & columns for of structure for placing explosive charges. A very long ride left D.H.Q at 7.30 a.m. returned 5 p.m. Oct. 22nd Beautiful Autumn day. The trees & foliage in the woods round here with their Autumn tints are goregous (sic) & beautiful. I have never seen anything like it before. 1000. just got news that 42nd Bn gone over. this completes new Bde. organization. wired result to Gen Birdwood & also result of my interview with 4th Army Comdr. also wrote at length on subject to both G.O.C. A.I.F. & Corps Comdr. Gen Carruthers D.A. & Q.M.G. & D.AAG come to D.H.Q. & I transacted Corps business with them. In Afternoon I inspected whole of the 15th Infy. Bde. transport near HUPPY a good show. - met L'. Col NEILSON G.S.O.II Training 4th Army at D.H.Q Oct. 23rd Fine day. In morning inspected the new demonstration platoon at D.H.Q & addressed them. Afterwards rode out to 8th Infy Bde H.Q. at RAMOURES & then inspected Bde School at WATTEBLERY everything appeared very satisfactory. In Afternoon inspected Ordinance Stores (5th Div.) & workshops. In evening to Div picture show at OISEMENT. Oct. 24th Fine but dull. In morning Inspected 5th Div Pioneers & transport at CERISY BULEUX. The inspection was very satisfactory in every respect. I saw 5 men who wished to see me about various matters after the parade was dismissed. I then went on to Corps & saw B.G.G.S. & Major Officer and D.A.A.G 79.
