4/6/15. Capt McMasters + 19 men reported + were taken on strength- Marched out of bivouack + reported to 3rd Bde H Qrs. Walkers Ridge prepared bivouack + settled down Reported that Turks made 3 determined Attacks in Southern Zone + were repulsed with heavy losses + many hundreds of prisoners taken. Heavy firing most of the night 30 prisoners taken at Quinns post No 24 Driver RG Gunn in arrest using insolent language 5/6/15. Regiment resting. Had interview with General Russell + obtained sketch of No 4 Section + detailed Playne + Brockman to prepare accurate one. Private code instituted. Rumors of peace negotiaions rife Brigadier again suggested to General Godley advisability of mounting 3 or 4 Brigades + received permission to work out scheme. Interviewed Brigadier by order, re code + general instructions Very little firing during the day or night. Turks still trenching on our left. Men still being wounded by Snipers. [Page 30]
