6/6/15 Reported to Bde HQrs by orders + interviewed Brigadier re stowaways + handed in written evidence + explained same. Valises ordered to be returned. order obeyed + handed over, but of in C. refused to give any receipt. Wrote to this effect to Bde HQrs. Church service by Chaplain Capt Makeham will be held this evening 6.30 to 7.30 in bivouack Turks reported to have surrendered in large numbers on our right + peace negotiations mentioned. Awaiting confirmation Evidence + all papers re court martial of No 24 Driver R.G. Gunn completed + sent on to Bde HQrs Heavy firing for about 1 hour. 48 NCOs + men on Sapping.

7/6/15 Reg still resting though finding about 60 NCOs + men for working parties Brigadier asks for appreciation of situation + scheme to land 6000 horses + when landed the advantage + use. Worked out scheme + handed it to him (Extracts only) suggesting 25 transports each to carry 240 horses which can be disembarked in 7 1/2 hours under darkness, with 4 slings working from each ship. Then under cover of darkness previous evening to assemble on the open ground beyond Shepherds Hut [Page 32]
