[Page] 3/ 29 8/15 HILL 60 (KAIAJIK AGHALA) in front & launch counterattack on three sides of right flank, recklessly charging our position [crossed out from the words 'in front' onwards] Work feverishly to consolidate position won, which however was difficult owing to putrid bodies forming a great deal of the trench floor. Communication with troops supporting has not been opened we were unable to clear trench of the numerous casualties. At 0430 (daylight) enemy make demonstration in front of new line and deliver vigorous counter-attack on three sides of right flank, recklessly charging our position, maintaining a heavy fire [previous word crossed out] enfilade fire & storming with bombs - Captain Fry P. Lieut Leake & many other ranks killed @ this stage - (These two officers displayed conspicuous gallantry - Capt Fry was killed picking up enemy bomb from trench floor). The left flank ably supported silencing the frontal attack and by developing an oblique fire (right front) [bottom of page torn off]
