[Page 137] DIARY 19 Wednesday 23rd AUGUST 16 Report of analysis states that I am not yet free from Cholera bacilli Thurs. 24th Aug 1916 Rations increased. Egg for breakfast. Pariah dogs a damned nuisance @ night. Days have become irksome. Would write if only could obtain writing paper. Friday 25th AUGUST 1916 Dried apples (stewed) today. Cannot procure paper to write letters or memoirs. Against precautionary regulations as same might be put into circulation with the added danger of infection. Would not be in the least surprised if my note-book maps etc are burned by order before I leave here. All literature etc is burned after having been read by Cholera patients. KHATIB GANNIT 3M @ 240 degrees from isolation tent. Saturday 26th AUG 1916 Still in isolation @ ABU HAMRA Have been getting quart bot Guinness Stout per diem
