Tuesday 6th NW After the Cattle Loading Manure. ½ butter 3 lbs Tea [...] Medico. Wednesday 7th Cloudy Wr. Loading Manure in the afternoon Cattle absent except oxen. Thursday 8 NW. found the Cattle - the oxen at work in the Morning turned out and joined Mr T's herd but not brot. home with them. Friday 9th Herded [...]. brot. home the whole Saturday 10 SW. The oxen carting manure. Made up Orricks Acct. amounting to £5.18.6 pd. off leaving three pounds due to Orrick. The Poney & I parted company in the bush he taking the Saddle & bridle with him, having joined Mr. Turner's Cavalry I found him deaf to any entreaty of mine having exhausted myself, the Sun having set & being [...] with bush - I reached home abt. 9 oClock - did not find the Cattle. Sunday 11 S.E. Moderate Wr some rain during the night Performed divine Service. Jack brot. home with his Saddle some natives came in 3 in no. with a peace offering Monday 12th S.E Clear & fine Wr. Strong breezes - The natives came to herd the Cattle I was anxious to accompany them & therefore wished to detain them until I had finished my breakfast in the interim some potatoes met their [...] in a pot preparing to being boiled - they were irresistable - & were taken away - they thought it prudent to decamp without any other notice found the Cattle worked the oxen [Page 24]
