1838 August & September Wednesday 29 Particularly cold. Corporal hoeing Potatoes. Welsh in Flower garden. Robt Larcom ground 4 pints of Galvanzoys had 2 Pints for himself in lieu of Flour whch he requested an extra ratio of. My tooth ache very bad Ryan to Cattle Thursday 30 W. Showers but warmer Corporal digging for French Beans and a Melon Bed Welsh in Flower Garden Charlotte distinguished herself. Selina Turner spent the evening chez nous Ryan Friday 31st Slight showers. Welsh alone working here. Much Fish in the River especially young Salmon 2 quarts of Milk to Ryan. Ryan. Septr 1838 Saturday 1st Much rain and very cold Welsh only to hew wood Ryan Sunday 2nd Wind & rain also a severe thunderstorm. Spent the day in doors tending to my little family and instructing them. At 5 my dearest Molloy arrived from the Vasse and brought Letters from Mamma and Mr Phillips with the dismal intelligence of George's death my beloved brother 13th March 1838.
