Shenton whose attentions to Miss Kingsford has at length induced all the Cabin passengers to arise in defence of Mr Hodson. He was proved guilty of having sate at her feet 3 successive evenings at a time when Mr Hodson was unable to counteract his deep laid schemes The prisoner pleaded his own cause but was pronounced guilty and sentenced accordingly. Mr Clarkson acted as judge and the jury consisted of the cuddy party the court broke up at a late hour. It was our usual party on the deck with the exception our two matrons Bessey & myself acting as chaperones to Miss Kingsford We retired very late and not then to rest Lenox had eaten so very little that we proposed [Page 31]
