Never mind this but turn to January 27. Monday 17 December lat 35.4 long 12.29 I did not intend my beloved Friends to have commenced another book until we had passed the Cape but I find that a letter is so much less comprehensive and satisfactory that I prefer scribbling on as I have commenced. In the meantime I have completed two long letters one to Mary and one to Charlotte which will tell you in this account that we are all well. This ship is a terribly "slow coach" but we are now not very far from the Cape. A week has elapsed since I closed my last Number will any one have patience to wade through so much of my writing dearest Brother why was not I at hand to day John for you. I am glad to say that Bessy is quite herself again the decks are sufficiently clear to admit of her taking regular exercise every evening [Page 1]
