fine looking man with a beautiful profile dressed though quite like a common sailor A red shirt brown cloth trousers and a broad tri coloured belt around his waist. His cap was the most stylish part of his costume ornamented with sables and a star embroidered in the front. His smile was so cheerful and his quick eye glanced about with so much animation that all my predilection for foreigners arrived in full force but it was long before I summoned up courage to speak. I seem quite to have lost the command of French terms. The homme could make himself well understood in English. An invitation was given to the ladies to go on board which occasioned first and subsequently all the party accepted.
