Monday Many ineffectual efforts at employment ending at last in despair. My own cabin completely inundated. Mr Shenton & Bessy and every one occupied for some time in baling it out. A dreadful destruction amongst the crockery we now make our appearance in the morning with our own little mugs in our hands. I slept or rather laid down on the floor in Bessy's cabin. It was the most tempestuous night we have yet known. Tuesday Tried to make up our dispatches for England but relinquished the attempt after upsetting my ink and fretting about until I fell upon the Captain's sofa completely exhausted but we have the happiness of knowing that we are [Page 7]
