Captain's long boat which had been capsized on the bar. What regret followed (all Bessy's dear songs) her port folio, with our drawings, journals, Len's passing certificates & Charley's power of attorney Bessy went out to agonize upon the sands, and got a great deal into her eyes which brought on a touch of opthalmia [sic- ophthalmia] In fact we went to bed full of miseries and self reproach Mr. Brown had invited us to go up the river to his country seat but he resolved to break through every engagement and to stick by the ship in defiance of every temptation.
